Provincial Nomination Program

  • Last year in 2018, a total of 55,000 targets were achieved by Canada’s provincial nomination programs. They received an additional 250 nominations toward the end of 2018 that brought total nominations for the year to 6,850. This year – 2019, IRCC has set the target of 61,000 new permanent residences via the PNP.
  • Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) offers nine Canadian provinces and two territories the power to select a set number of immigrants to fill specific labour market needs for Canadian permanent residence.
  • IRCC announced on March 12 that Ontario’s 2019 allocation consists of a principal allocation of 6,650 nominations and an additional 250 spaces for intermediate-skilled temporary foreign workers (TFWs) that are part of a new initiative.
  • There are three immigration streams - Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) in Ontario affiliated with the Federal Express Entry System, which organizes a pool of candidates for three of Canada’s main economic immigration categories.
Canadian permanent residence

  • The Human Capital Priorities Stream is the most active migration path in Ontario by 2018, issuing 2,190 of the 6,850 total nominations issued by Ontario last year.
  • Through the OINP’s two another Express Entry-aligned streams-the Skilled Trades Stream and the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream another 1,035 nominations were issued.
  • Through its Express Entry-linked streams, Ontario is able to search the federal pool and invite candidates who match their provincial and federal criteria to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
  • With a provincial nomination, Express Entry candidates receive additional 600 points towards their Express Entry Ranking Score and are effectively taken to the IRCC for the invitation to apply for Canada PR.
